Where Do I Start?

Being a Caregiver isn’t easy. And it’s even more difficult for a Caregiver to explain to someone who isn’t going through the emotional pain of interacting with a loved one even partially lost to dementia, the additional toll it takes on the Caregiver, specifically, and the whole family in general. Fortunately, there are resources and support available to help.

Unfortunately, when it comes time to utilize some of the available resources and support, it’s hard to know where to find them. Sometimes, we don’t even know what questions to ask, in order to get pointed in the right direction! Amidst a dizzying number of decisions and emotions, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.

Help is Available! While your situation may be unique to your family, take comfort in knowing you are not alone. Hundreds of families representing thousands of individual family members are Caregivers or Care Recipients throughout Yavapai County.

From deciding what type of living arrangement is the best option for your loved one, to knowing how best to help someone who suffers from dementia, help is available.

SUPPORT GROUPS - attending a support group can be a significant source of help for people who are new in their role of Caregiver, as well as an ongoing source of comfort for those who have been caring for a loved one for any length of time. Many times, people who have lost a loved one continue coming to the meetings, to both offer and receive support from others. Sharing and learning from people who can relate to what you’re going through is a great way to feel supported.

AGENCY SUPPORT - there are numerous non-profit, for-profit and government agencies that offer information, emotional and/or financial support (services, products, housing assistance, etc), or can refer you to an appropriate source of help. Many of these agencies are listed in the Senior Resources Online Agency Directory on this website.*

GET CONNECTED - sign up to receive our free Caregiver Connection Newsletter. Sent monthly via email and also available on our website, the newsletter includes information about local support groups, meetings, conferences and other opportunities to obtain the services and support you need. Also included each month are excerpts from articles on some of the most sensitive topics relating to being a Caregiver or Senior. No topic is off-limits, and new articles are being constantly added.

INFORMATIONAL ARTICLES - although thousands of articles exist on the topic of Seniors and Caregivers, the articles on our website speak to the emotional aspects of the subject. We’re not afraid to address the questions that are not generally discussed in polite conversation, but are nevertheless on the minds and hearts of both Seniors and Caregivers. Written from the perspective or either the Senior or the Caregiver, we invite you to take a look at the Articles section of the website and let us know if there are topics you’d like us to address.

SENIOR RESOURCES CONFERENCE & EXPO - these Free events will be held twice a year. Guest speakers will provide presentations on topics of importance to Caregivers and Seniors. There will be time for Q&A after each session.

CONTACT US - Our goal is to connect Caregivers and Seniors with the services, products and support they need. We’d love to hear from you with your questions, suggestions and concerns regarding your role as a Caregiver, Care Recipient, or Service Provider.
